Cashback and codes
Can You Stack Cashback and Discount Codes?
A discount code reduces what you pay now. Cashback may arrive later, may track at a different rate and can be declined when an unapproved code is used. The best-looking percentage is not always the best checkout route.
Start with the provider’s terms
Open the cashback provider’s retailer page before visiting the shop. Look for excluded categories, VAT rules, minimum spends and the specific wording about voucher codes. A code found elsewhere may invalidate cashback even when the retailer accepts it.
Treat pending cashback as future value, not cash already saved. Until it becomes payable, there is tracking and eligibility risk.
- Use only codes the cashback provider lists as eligible
- Disable ad blockers only if the provider requires it
- Start with an empty basket if the tracking guidance says so
- Keep the order confirmation and tracking reference
Compare separate routes
Calculate a code-only route, a cashback-only route and a combined route. For each one, record pay today, expected future cashback and effective price. If cashback confidence is uncertain, reduce its estimated value rather than counting the headline amount in full.
- Code only: item price minus the checkout discount
- Cashback only: item price minus expected future cashback
- Combined: discounted checkout price minus eligible cashback
- Baseline: the retailer price with no offer
Use a confidence-adjusted result
A guaranteed £10 code can be better than a possible £12 cashback return. Tillio keeps pay-today cost separate from future value and shows the assumptions behind a route so you can choose certainty or maximum potential saving deliberately.
Questions shoppers ask
Does using a discount code always cancel cashback?
No. Some codes are approved by the cashback provider, while unlisted codes may make the purchase ineligible. Check the provider’s retailer terms before checkout.
Should cashback reduce the amount shown as pay today?
No. Cashback is normally future value. Pay today should remain the amount charged at checkout.
What if cashback does not track?
Keep the order details and use the provider’s missing-cashback process. Do not treat pending cashback as guaranteed money.
